About Shasta Lake
The City of Shasta Lake grew out of the Shasta Dam era. Construction on the dam began in 1938, and workers and their families settled in what became Central Valley, Project City, Pine Grove, Summit City and Toyon. Those communities came together as one city on July 2, 1993. Today Shasta Lake sits along Interstate 5, a short drive north of Redding, close to Shasta Reservoir, the largest man-made lake in California.
